The mural is painted on a block-long wall that marks the end of the abandoned Route 40 Expressway. Construction of the expressway was halted due to financial problems and protests from several community organizations. The expressway would have cut right through historical Leakin Park. The image is meant to recognize the need for community growth and individual effort. The image has since been adopted by The Friends of Leakin Park and The GwynnÕs Falls Community Association as the logo for their preservation efforts and Outward Bound Program. |
