HISTORY LESSON
Bond Street between Ashland Ave. and Eager St. (Church Square)

Sponsored by:
Mayor's Advisory Committee on Art and Culture and
Historic East Baltimore Community Association

History Lesson is painted in two sections -- each nearly a city block long -- on the rear of the Church Square Shopping Center in east Baltimore. The mural is just one in a series of works done by local artists, each showing a particular aspect of East Baltimore history.

The shopping center is located between four prominent, local churches that originally purchased the plot together as a common parking area. HEBCAC thought this would be an appropriate location for a mural depicting the church's influence on the community. The mural incorporates images, patterns and, in some cases, architectural silhouettes to tell the story of a culturally diverse east Baltimore church history.
